High flood hits Guddu and Sukkur barrages, over 80 villages submerged in Sindh

A high flood in the Indus River at Guddu and Sukkur barrages has inundated vast areas, submerging more than 80 villages and hundreds of acres of farmland in upper Sindh.

The rising water levels have worsened the situation in Sukkur, Pano Aqil, and Kashmore-Kandhkot, where dozens of families remain stranded in riverine (katcha) settlements.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with boats being used to evacuate affected residents.

Relief efforts, however, face challenges due to disrupted road links and difficult access to marooned communities.

In Ghotki’s Qadirpur area, gas supply from six wells of Block-6 remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day after floodwaters entered the installations. Authorities said restoration work would begin only once the water recedes.

Meanwhile, protective embankments in Gambat are under increasing pressure, prompting continuous monitoring by the administration.

In Naushahro Feroze, flood victims continue to wait for government assistance.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced plans for an aid package for flood-affected farmers, promising details next week.

He warned that without imposing an “agricultural emergency,” the province could face a severe wheat shortage.
