In a message posted on social media platform X, Bilawal welcomed the federal government’s decision to declare a climate and agricultural emergency following the PPP’s demand.

However, he expressed disappointment that no relief package had yet been announced under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for flood-hit districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and especially South Punjab.

“There is no excuse to cut of the millions affected from this assistance. We demand the government initiate this process immediately.”

He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally assured him that flood victims would receive relief through BISP, but the commitment remains unfulfilled.

He criticised the federal government’s delay in making an international appeal through the United Nations system, terming it “incomprehensible.”

He noted that such appeals are a global norm during natural disasters of this scale, recalling that Pakistan had made a similar call for international support during the devastating 2022 floods when he was foreign minister.

The PPP chairman added that his party would table resolutions in all provincial assemblies, as well as in the National Assembly and Senate, to press the government for urgent action.
