The Flood Forecasting Division also issued a high-level flood alert for the Sukkur Barrage.

The FFD warning came after floodwaters from Punjab entered Sindh, prompting the authorities to declare a medium-level flood at the Sukkur Barrage.**

By midday Thursday, 400,000 cusecs of floodwater was passing through the Sukkur Barrage, which has a capacity for 900,000 cusecs.

The deluge from Punjab also caused a rise in water levels at both Guddu and Sukkur barrages.

In the riverine (katcha) areas of Pano Aqil, a medium-level flood has been reported, where Pakistan Navy personnel launched rescue operations to relocate residents of the katcha areas to safer locations.

High-level flood at Panjnad, Sidhnai

At Trimmu headworks, inflow and outflow have been recorded at 260,000 cusecs, while Kotri Barrage is currently seeing 257,000 cusecs of water.

Meanwhile, raging rivers continued to wreak havoc across Punjab, where hundreds of villages have been submerged and millions of people displaced.

Authorities on Thursday warned that a very high level of flood has been recorded at the Head Panjnad and Head Sidhnai, where inflow and outflow have reached 660,000 cusecs.

In Liaquatpur, a high-level flood also affected the surrounding area, submerging 35 villages and displacing more than 80,000 people.

Meanwhile, Jalalpur Pirwala has been saved from flood by causing a breach in the Gilani embankment, which diverted the floodwaters. As a result, villages in Bahadurpur and Basti Lang, among others, have been submerged.

An administration official stated that the affected areas were sparsely populated and primarily consisted of agricultural land.

The Chenab River’s raging floodwaters have caused destruction across south Punjab, while the Shershah Barrage in Multan remained under pressure.

River conditions across Punjab

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported a significant decrease in river flow due to the waning intensity of monsoon rains.

According to PDMA, rainfall has also ceased in the upper catchment areas of the rivers.

It said that the River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala was flowing at 182,000 cusecs, while at Marala, the flow had dropped to 50,000 cusecs.

The PDMA added that all departments were on high alert as per the instructions of the Punjab chief minister.
