KP education department to make teaching license mandatory for all educators

In a move aimed at improving education standards, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has announced that teaching will now require a mandatory license across the province.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is set to introduce a licensing system under which only registered and licensed individuals will be authorized to teach.

According to official documents, the department is also establishing a regulatory body with an allocated budget of Rs200 million.

This body will be responsible for overseeing the registration and licensing process, including the development of Terms of Reference (TORs) for teacher qualification standards.

The initiative marks a major policy shift, making it illegal for unlicensed individuals to teach in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Teachers who meet the required criteria will be issued licenses, and license renewals will be performance-based, ensuring continuous evaluation and quality control in the education sector.
Education officials believe this reform will professionalise teaching, enhance accountability, and elevate the overall quality of education in the province.
