Floodwaters from Punjab on Saturday entered Sindh, pushing up the water levels of the Indus River and triggering fears of possible flooding across the province.

The Sindh government has intensified emergency measures to safeguard lives and property.

According to the provincial irrigation department, inflows and outflows at rivers and barrages continue to fluctuate.

At Panjnad Barrage, water inflow and outflow exceeded 300,000 cusecs, creating a critical situation downstream at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government is fully alert.

He shared detailed figures: Guddu Barrage recorded an inflow of 360,976 cusecs and outflow of 325,046 cusecs; Sukkur Barrage reported inflow of 329,648 cusecs and outflow of 278,398 cusecs; while Kotri Barrage saw inflow of 237,922 cusecs and outflow of 215,567 cusecs.

To mitigate risk, 121,769 people have so far been shifted from katcha (riverine) areas to safer locations, with 5,848 receiving medical treatment in the past 24 hours alone. In total, 360,777 people have been relocated due to flood threats.

Rescue teams, health camps, relief goods, and 22 boats have been deployed across affected districts.

Memon further said that livestock protection is also underway.

Over the past 24 hours, 64,487 animals were vaccinated or treated, bringing the total to 820,811. Additionally, 14,495 animals were shifted to safer areas just yesterday.

Rejecting rumours of deteriorating law and order in flood-hit katcha areas, the Sindh Assembly Speaker clarified that the administration and law enforcement agencies are fully mobilised to ensure public safety.
