The 33-year-old cricketer announced through his Instagram account, calling the opportunity to represent Pakistan “the proudest chapter” of his life.

“Today, I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Asif wrote.

“Alhamdulillah, wearing the Pakistan jersey has been the greatest honour of my life and serving my country on the cricket field has been my proudest chapter.”

While bidding farewell to international cricket, Asif confirmed he would continue to feature in domestic tournaments and global T20 leagues.

The hard-hitting batter also expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, fans, friends, and family for their unwavering support throughout his career, particularly during the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup — a tournament overshadowed by the tragic loss of his young daughter.

“To my fans, teammates and coaches, thank you for your love, belief and support through every high and low. To my family and friends, who stood with me in moments of joy and in the deepest of trials, including the loss of my beloved daughter during the World Cup, your strength carried me forward,” he added.

Asif Ali represented Pakistan in 58 T20 Internationals and 21 One-Day Internationals, scoring 959 runs across the formats, including three half-centuries.

Known for his ability to clear the ropes in the death overs, Asif was often Pakistan’s go-to option as a finisher in T20 cricket.
