The flood situation at Ganda Singh Wala is expected to remain at a high level, and heavy rainfall is expected in the upper areas of the rivers between September 2 and 3.

Floods have wreaked havoc in Punjab, killing 33 people, inundating 2,200 villages, and affecting 2 million people, the PDMA added.

According to PDMA Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia, 70,000 people have been evacuated to safer places.

Irfan Ali Kathia said that 135,000 cusecs of water would reach Pakpattan, Vehari, and Bahawalnagar by tomorrow (Monday).

The water level at Headslimanki is rising, which will peak by the evening and may affect the surrounding villages.

The PDMA DG said that the water flow at the Remo headworks has increased by 100,000 cusecs.

Irfan Kathia said that the Gadda Boor and Badhwala protective embankments connected to the Islam headworks collapsed, which flooded several villages.

He said that arrangements have been made to force a cut at the Muhammadwala headworks.

The PDMA further stated that heavy rains in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is expected to cause flooding in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Beas rivers.

The authority said that 700,000 cusecs of water is expected to reach the Trimmu headworks in the next 24 hours.

By September 3, there will be an extremely high flood situation at Punjand, the PDMA said, adding that all relevant commissioners and deputy commissioners have been alerted.

The PDMA Director-General, Irfan Kathia, said that the next 48 hours are crucial; several districts, including Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Khanewal, are likely to be affected by floods.

The public has been advised to evacuate these areas.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Ravi River at Shahdara has started receding, with water flow reaching 76,500 cusecs.

Rescue operations are underway in the flooded settlements along the Ravi River.

Meanwhile, 600,000 cusecs of the Chenab River has entered Jhang. Additionally, 400,000 cusecs of water has flowed out of Chiniot, affecting 135 villages, and leaving hundreds of people stranded.

Floodwaters have caused widespread devastation in Sargodha, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Wazirabad, and Chiniot.

According to reports, a floodwave of 1 million cusecs will pass through Multan today (Sunday). If the city faces a risk, the Head Muhammadwala embankment will be breached to release the water, the reports said.

Floodwave ready to enter Sindh

After wreaking havoc in Punjab, the floodwaters are now ready to enter Sindh.

Floodwater has already reached several katcha areas in Sindh. A flood alert has been issued for the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, which could affect 1.6 million people.

According to the PDMA Director-General, if 700,000 cusecs of water entered Sindh, the katcha areas will be inundated, affecting 167 union councils and a population of 1.6 million. Moreover, 273,000 families will need to be evacuated, he added.
