In a message shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Erdoğan reflected on her visit to Pakistan during the devastating floods of 2010, where she witnessed the pain and despair of families who had lost everything.

“Turkey was among the first to help Pakistan then, and even today, our prayers, hearts, and support remain with the Pakistani people,” she stated.

Erdoğan highlighted the efforts of the Turkish Red Crescent, which is active in assessing the situation and organising immediate relief, including food, shelter, water, and medical aid. She also offered prayers for the victims and called for compassion and solidarity during this challenging time.

Urgent call for international aid

The First Lady appealed to the global community to enhance their support for Pakistan in its time of need, emphasizing that “the wounds of the flood victims must be healed with humanity and compassion.”

Severe impact in Punjab

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that the floods have submerged 1,769 villages, affecting approximately 1.23 million residents.

At least 248,000 people have been displaced, while rescue operations continue in areas such as Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, and Rajanpur.

So far, 28 lives have been lost, although swift action by the army, Rangers, and Rescue 1122 has saved 148,000 animals and evacuated thousands to safer locations.

Ongoing relief efforts

Rescue teams are tirelessly working to provide shelter and medical care to those affected. Officials have assured that relief operations will persist until all displaced families are safely rehabilitated.
