Aleema Khan’s other son also arrested in Lahore over May 9 cases

Lahore police have arrested Sher Shah, the second son of Aleema Khan and nephew of former prime minister Imran Khan, in connection with cases related to the May 9, 2023, unrest.

According to PTI’s central leader Omar Ayub, Sher Shah was taken into custody by Punjab police, a move he strongly condemned.

Earlier, police had arrested Aleema Khan’s elder son, Shahrez Azim, on Thursday over similar allegations and produced him in court on Friday to obtain remand.

Advocate Rana Mudassir said Sher Shah had gone to court to attend his brother’s hearing. After returning home, he was arrested by the police.

Authorities claim they have evidence of his involvement in the May 9 incidents and that legal action will follow.

Meanwhile, Shahrez Azim was produced before an anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Friday.

Sources said the court granted police an eight-day physical remand in the Jinnah House case.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul heard the proceedings.

Police submitted case records, stating that Shahrez had been nominated in the Jinnah House attack case since September 23, 2023, based on supplementary statements, and requested a 30-day physical remand.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja appeared in court in Shahrez’s defence, arguing that he had never been an accused in this case and was being targeted for political reasons.

“If he was nominated, why did it take 27 months to arrest him? This arrest is a reaction to Imran Khan’s bail approvals,” he said.

The court, however, granted an eight-day physical remand of Shahrez to police custody.

Earlier, police had maintained that those involved in anti-state activities do not deserve any leniency and that the law is equal for all.

Aleema Khan, reacting to her son’s arrest, alleged that four armed men in plain clothes stormed their house through the kitchen entrance and abducted Shahrez.

She claimed her son was upstairs with his wife and father when he was taken, while the intruders also harassed their driver.

It is noteworthy that just a day before these arrests, the Supreme Court had approved bail for PTI founder Imran Khan in eight different cases.
