The ruling came during the hearing of a petition seeking the registration of an FIR, in which the court also directed that the statements of the deceased’s family members be recorded.

Police were further instructed to proceed in accordance with the law and, if a case is made out under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code, to formally lodge it.

During a previous hearing, police had submitted a report stating that Humaira’s family had been contacted and her post-mortem had already been conducted, while the final forensic report was awaited.

The petition had named the SSP South and SHO Gizri as respondents.

Humaira Asghar’s body was found on July 8 in a flat located in DHA, Karachi. The discovery was made when the landlord, after non-payment of rent, approached a court, which sent a bailiff to break open the door.

The post-mortem report revealed that the body was in the final stages of decomposition, suggesting that the actress had died almost eight months earlier.

Investigators said Humaira had been facing financial difficulties; her last commercial shoot was in September 2024, and she had work-related communication until October 2024.

Further forensic examination of items collected from the apartment revealed that five samples contained sea salt, commonly used to reduce odour and repel insects.
