Rescue officials said the jeep, travelling from Kail to Taobat Helmet, skidded off the slippery road due to heavy rain and fell into the gorge near Sardari.

Among the dead were the Karachi couple, their driver, a local resident, and two other tourists, while the couple’s young daughter was injured.

The bodies and the injured child were shifted to a nearby hospital.

In a separate accident in Rawalakot, a woman lecturer of Poonch University lost her life after her car was swept away in a flooded stream near the university’s Tarar campus.

Police said the victim, Dr Gul Lala, was driving through the stream when her car stalled.

Rising water swept the vehicle away, leading to her death. Dr Lala, a resident of Kharak village near Rawalakot, was a faculty member at the university.

Search efforts are underway to locate her vehicle in the swollen stream.
