Major catastrophe averted in Balochistan, says CM Bugti

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Monday paid tribute to security agencies for foiling a major terror plan on the Independence Day and said a major catastrophe has been averted in Balochistan.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, he said that security agencies had arrested an alleged “to-be suicide bomber” as they foiled a terrorist attack on Independence Day.
Bugti said that a facilitator of the BLA –– a professor – was arrested in Quetta.

“There’s a narrative being promoted that the people of Balochistan are deprived. How can you say this professor is deprived?” the chief minister questioned.

“I urge the Baloch people to stay away from such people,” Bugti added.

The chief minister said that “how long will we remain caught in this dilemma?”

The government does not support collective punishment, but action must be taken against those who support and assist terrorists.

He said that those who are aware of the activities of people involved in anti-state activities must come forward.

“If you know that your relative is involved in terrorism and you stay silent, you will also be held responsible,” he added.

Bugti said that security forces, including the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), are making dedicated efforts to ensure peace in the province.

The chief minister said that the security forces foiled a major terrorist plot on Independence Day by arresting three members of a gang.

The chief minister said the same group was involved in the attack on Quetta Railway Station.

Sarfraz Bugti urged the public to remain vigilant and not to support misguided elements. He also advised parents to keep a close watch on their children.

Bugti also said that parliament seemed confused on the Balochistan issue, adding that it must play a leadership role.

He questioned whether those who are unwilling to negotiate should simply be given a license to kill others.

He made it clear that “We are a state, and we have a responsibility to ensure the protection of the people and the rule of law.”
