He said that no amount can replace a life, “but support will be provided to the bereaved.”

Speaking to reporters, Lanjar confirmed that an FIR had been registered and the dumper impounded.

He said the provincial assembly had already passed a bill mandating training for all LTV and HTV drivers, with strict action planned against unlicensed driving. The legislation also aims to strengthen penalties under traffic laws.

The minister noted that Karachi’s roads are plagued by decades-old vehicles and motorcycles without proper lighting, both of which increase accident risks.

He announced that old trucks will no longer be allowed to operate, and no driver without an HTV licence will be permitted to operate heavy vehicles.

Tankers and dumpers without cameras will also be banned from the roads.

Lanjar stressed that traffic safety requires public cooperation, adding that an e-ticketing system will soon deliver challans directly to offenders’ homes.

He also warned that those taking the law into their own hands would face trial in anti-terrorism courts, saying, “Even the life of a small child is precious, and it is the state’s duty to protect it.”

CCTV footage shows the crash occurred during light drizzle on Saturday night, causing the road to be slippery.

The Karachi Road Accident Analysis Team (KRAT) reported that the motorcycle had a minor collision with another vehicle before skidding, throwing the siblings to the ground.

A fast-moving empty dumper on the fast track then ran over them.

Following the incident, an enraged crowd torched seven dumpers.

Police detained more than 20 people, and cases were registered at Yousuf Plaza and Federal B Industrial Area police stations on the complaints of the truck owners.

Authorities said more footage is being reviewed to determine the complete cause of the accident, with investigations ongoing.
