Interior ministry announces repatriation of Afghan ‘Proof of Registration’ card holders

The Federal Ministry of Interior Affairs announced the repatriation of Afghan nationals holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards from September 1.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting, citing security concerns and increasing pressure on national resources.

As per the decision, NADRA will cancel the registration of Afghans at border terminals, while the FIA will provide facilitation at designated border crossing points.

The decision also calls for the establishment of transit areas and financial assistance for deportees.

Daily progress on the repatriation will be monitored through the Foreign National Security Dashboard, the notification stated.

Pakistan launched a major repatriation drive for Afghan refugees in 2023, which was intensified in April this year.

During the campaign, the government revoked residence permits of hundreds of thousands of Afghan nationals and warned that those overstaying the deadline would face arrest.

So far, over 1 million Afghan nationals have left Pakistan, including 200,000 since April 2025 alone.
