The provincial ombudsman of Sindh has ordered the removal of K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moonis Alvi from his post in a case involving the harassment of a woman in the workplace.

The ombudsman, while delivering the verdict, has also imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million on Moonis Alvi, which will be paid as compensation to the victim.

According to the decision, if Moonis Alvi fails to pay the fine, his property will be confiscated, and his national identity card will also be cancelled.

The victim had claimed in her petition that since she was appointed as Chief Marketing Officer in 2019, Moonis Alvi had been pressuring her to go out for dinner with him.

The woman alleged that Moonis Alvi also made inappropriate comments about her physical appearance.

While giving his verdict in light of all the evidence and statements presented by the woman, the provincial ombudsman ruled that Moonis Alvi’s behaviour amounted to harassment and directed stringent measures against him.

Alvi decides to challenge the verdict

Meanwhile, reacting to the decision, Moonis Alvi said that “he has always upheld the values of integrity and dignity in professional matters, and sincerely believes in promoting safe and respectful workplaces for everyone”.

While I respect the legal process and the institutions that uphold it, I feel it is necessary to say that this decision does not reflect the reality of how I personally experienced the situation.”

“This has been an incredibly painful journey, not just professionally, but also personally. I am reviewing this decision with my legal advisers and intend to exercise my right to appeal,” he added.

Moonis Alvi added, “Everyone who feels they have been wronged deserves to be heard. I am committed to bringing the truth to light through all available legal means.”

“In the meantime, I am grateful to all those who know me, have worked with me, and who believe in the legal process. My respect for justice and the principles of dignity in the workplace is unwavering,” he added.
