Meta’s AI technology is now powering several features that not only enhance the ease, speed, and effectiveness of conversations but also maintain users’ privacy.

In its latest updates, WhatsApp has introduced five powerful AI-backed features aimed at improving user experience, particularly for busy professionals and group chat administrators.

Here are the five key AI features now being rolled out:

1. Message Summarization If users miss a large number of messages in a chat, they no longer need to scroll through all of them. WhatsApp’s AI can now generate concise summaries of lengthy conversations. This feature operates on private processing, ensuring that user data is not stored by WhatsApp or Meta.

2. Quick Recap for Multiple Chats Aimed at users managing multiple conversations, this feature allows summaries of up to five chats at once. It’s especially useful for business or group chats. Currently available to a limited group, it will soon be rolled out to more users.

3. Spam and Scam Warnings With a surge in WhatsApp-related fraud in countries like Pakistan, this feature is timely. Using AI, WhatsApp can detect suspicious messages, links, and forwarding patterns, alerting users or automatically blocking harmful content—without reading the messages. The system blocks over 65 million harmful messages every month.

4. Smart Writing Suggestions WhatsApp’s AI now assists users in writing messages by offering grammar corrections, tone adjustments, and quick reply suggestions. This tool is designed for professionals and busy users, and all messages remain end-to-end encrypted. Recipients won’t be able to tell that AI was used in drafting the message.

5. Voice-Based AI Chat In select countries, users can now interact with Meta AI via voice and receive spoken responses. Though still in its early phase, this feature is expected to become a hands-free assistant, similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini.

Many of these features are currently in beta testing and are being gradually introduced across different regions. Access to some functionalities in Pakistan may take time, but their eventual rollout promises a smarter and more secure messaging experience for all.
