The fire broke out on Tuesday, in the Seyitgazi district of Turkey. As the fire escalates rapidly, the firefighters have battled to bring it under control.

According to Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli, the situation worsened on Wednesday, due to sudden shift of wind direction, trapped 24 fighters.

The wind blew in the upward direction were towards the crew. The rescuers were enveloped in the fire, all were rushed to the hospital. Ten people did not survived.

According to the statement of firefighter Ercan Temel stated “They were fighting the fire above the hill, while we were battling it from below”“.

Speaking to Ihlas News Agency, firefighter Ercan Temel recounted the tragic moment his colleagues were overtaken by the flames.

He said the crew attempted to flee uphill in a desperate bid to escape, but the rapidly advancing fire left them with no way out.

The tragic incident has called for a legal investigation. Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that prosecutors have launched an official inquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile, Turkey continues to battle with wildfires across the country.

Minister Yumakli stated that seven wildfires are still active in the provinces of central and western regions. Firefighter teams are working around the clock to contain the fire.

On the other hand, the country mourns the loss of its front line soldiers.
