Humaira Asghar case: Police discover long-standing dispute between deceased, landlord

The investigation into the mysterious death of actress and model Humaira Asghar has recovered a new document that reveals a long-standing dispute between the deceased and her landlord over house rent.

Police have also submitted a preliminary report to the court regarding the possible registration of a case in connection with her death.

Humaira Asghar’s decomposed body was found in an apartment in Karachi’s Defence area earlier this month. As per reports, the actress and model died in 2024.

As per the findings made by the police recently, Humaira Asghar had entered into a rental agreement for a flat in Karachi’s Defence area on December 20, 2018.

The agreement included a clause for a 10% annual increase in rent, which she reportedly failed to pay.

The landlord served her the first eviction notice on June 3, 2021, followed by a second notice on June 17 of the same year.

Between the years 2019 and 2020, Asghar allegedly defaulted on Rs40,000 in rent. This amount grew to Rs92,400 in 2020–2021, with the total unpaid rent eventually reaching Rs535,000.

Despite repeated court notices, she did not respond. On September 21, 2023, a court issued an eviction order against her.

In 2024, the landlord filed an execution petition, requesting the court to order repossession of the flat. The court approved the request on March 26, 2025.

Humaira’s decomposed body was discovered in the same apartment on July 8, 2025.

The police, responding to a request for an FIR, informed the court that a final decision on legal proceedings will be made once the forensic report is completed.

The court has ordered the police to submit a detailed report by August 16. The court also directed to consult the family whether they wish to pursue a formal case.

A lawyer representing the family also requested that Humaira’s brother and other relatives be included in the investigation.

The SSP South and SHO Gizri have been named as respondents in the application.
