Karachi: Power fault hits Gharo pumping station, disrupts water supply

Due to the power outage at the Gharo Pumping Station and Filter Plant, water supply to several areas of Karachi has been disrupted, the Water Corporation confirmed.

According to the spokesperson, the issue arose due to a cable fault that occurred at around 3pm on Friday. The fault has not yet been resolved, significantly affecting the city’s water distribution.

The Water Corporation stated that it is in constant contact with K-Electric to ensure the fault is repaired as soon as possible. “Efforts are underway to restore the power supply urgently,” the spokesperson said.

The Gharo station is responsible for supplying 30 million gallons of water per day (30 MGD) to the city. However, this supply has been completely halted due to the power disruption.

The affected areas include Port Qasim, Bin Qasim Town, Shah Faisal Town, PNS Mehran, PAF Base Faisal, and Karsaz. Residents in these localities are expected to face a temporary water shortage.

The Water Corporation has appealed to citizens for cooperation and patience, assuring that all possible efforts are being made to restore normal supply at the earliest.
