The Pakistan Army and Punjab police have launched a full-scale rescue and relief operation in Punjab following heavy monsoon rains.

Under the joint operation, dozens of stranded people have been shifted to safer places.

According to the ISPR, rescue work has been launched in Jhelum district, including Rasool Nagar Khurd, Burhan Nala, Dhok Bhidar and Darapur, following reports of severe flooding.

Rescue teams evacuated the affected people with the help of helicopters, while army personnel also provided life jackets, food, medical aid and other essential items to the affected people.

Pakistan Army troops are constantly monitoring the situation and are on alert to deal with any potential threat in coordination with the local administration.

According to the ISPR, the army will not leave the affected people alone in this trying time.

On the other hand, Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar has ordered authorities to intensify relief operations in all affected districts.

In a statement, the IG Punjab said that police teams were playing an important role in shifting citizens to safe places.

Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) are personally monitoring the relief operations, it added.

The situation was being continuously monitored from the Punjab Police control centres, while regular patrolling was also being carried out in the villages along the river.

Dr Usman Anwar directed that close coordination be maintained with the district government, rescue organisations and other relevant agencies.

He said that the safety of the lives and property of the citizens will be ensured at all costs.
