Under a clause in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), UN sanctions can be reapplied if Iran breaches the agreement a pact that former US President Donald Trump withdrew from in 2018.

In statements to Al Jazeera on Saturday, Araqchi revealed that Iran is currently assessing the details of potential nuclear negotiations with the United States.

He stated, “We are evaluating the timing, location, format, content, and the guarantees necessary for Iran in any possible negotiations.”

Araqchi further clarified that discussions with global powers would be confined to Iran’s nuclear activities and would not extend to its military capabilities.

He emphasized that should negotiations occur, they would focus exclusively on the nuclear program, with sanctions lifted in exchange for building confidence in Iran’s nuclear intentions. No other matters would be on the table.
