Torrential rains continue to lash various parts of Pakistan, submerging low-lying areas and disrupting daily life.

Several incidents caused by the severe weather have led to tragic losses of life and injuries.

Late last night, heavy downpours hit Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, and several cities across South Punjab and Central Punjab.

Streets in many areas, including Chiniot, Shujabad, Khanpur, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Karor Lal Esan, Mianwali, Layyah, Kallur Kot, Okara, Arifwala, and Vehari, turned into water pools. Rainwater entered homes in low-lying areas, creating serious challenges for residents.

Multiple accidents due to rainfall

In the Ali Pur Chattha area of Wazirabad, a roof collapsed during the construction of a house, killing a 19-year-old labourer named Mudasir. Also, two others, Ali Hassan (19) and Imran (25), sustained injuries and were shifted to the civil hospital for treatment.

In another incident near Bank Stop at Chungi Amar Sidhu in Lahore, the roof of a house collapsed, injuring two individuals. Rescue teams quickly pulled Rahmat and Hamza from the rubble and transported them to the hospital.

NDMA alert

In light of the ongoing heavy rains, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued its second warning within a day.

Also, the NDMA warned that landslides are highly likely in northern regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

The NDMA identified high-risk areas such as Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamer, Ghanche, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Rawalakot, Haveli, and Bagh.

It also flagged potential landslides along major roads, including Astore Road, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Nagar Road, and the Karakoram Highway.

The Jaglot–Skardu Road, especially near Rondo, remains particularly vulnerable.

The NDMA has directed local authorities and relevant departments to stay on high alert. It emphasized the need for immediate deployment of machinery and personnel to ensure rapid clearance and response in case of landslides or road blockages.
