NEPRA cuts power tariffs across Pakistan; KE consumers also get big relief

In a welcome development for electricity consumers across Pakistan, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction in power tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) mechanism.

According to official notifications issued by NEPRA:

Karachi’s electricity consumers will get a relief of Rs4.03 per unit, applicable for April 2025.

Consumers of government-owned DISCOs will see a reduction of 50 paisa per unit, applicable for May 2025.

The price cuts come after NEPRA reviewed fuel cost data and held hearings on separate petitions submitted by K-Electric and the DISCOs. The authority had earlier received a request for a Rs4.60 per unit reduction in FCA charges.

After evaluating the data and conducting public hearings, NEPRA finalized and issued separate notifications to implement the revised rates for different categories of consumers.

This move is expected to bring temporary financial relief to millions of households and businesses burdened by high electricity bills.
