CBC identifies 125 dangerous buildings in initial survey

The Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) on Wednesday launched a survey to identify dilapidated and unsafe buildings within its jurisdiction.

In the first phase, 125 buildings have been identified as posing a serious risk to public safety, especially during the monsoon season.

According to a CBC statement, the identified buildings are spread across several areas, including Delhi Colony (51 buildings), Madaniabad (16 buildings, Lower Gizri (7 ), Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Colony (5 ), Punjab Colony (14 ), Pak Jamhoria Colony (27 ), and Bakshan Village (5 buildings).

These structures have reportedly deteriorated to a critical state, with weakened foundations and decaying infrastructure that could lead to collapse, threatening lives and property.

The CBC has issued notices to both owners and tenants, instructing them to immediately vacate or demolish the buildings.

Failure to comply will result in legal action under the Cantonment Act of 1924, and the board will not be held liable for any loss of life or property.

No claims or compensation will be entertained in the event of damage or casualties.

Affected residents have also been directed to obtain a structural safety inspection from a Pakistan Engineering Council-registered engineer or firm and submit the report to CBC without delay.

The board confirmed that the survey is still ongoing and more unsafe buildings are expected to be identified in the coming days as part of the ongoing inspection campaign.

CBC emphasised that this initiative is part of its preventive efforts to avoid potential tragedies and ensure public safety amid the looming monsoon season.
