Islamabad and Baghdad are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq.

The agreement was reached during a meeting at CDA Headquarters between CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Iraq’s Head of Mission, Abdul Qadir Sulaiman Al-Humaeri.

The discussions were focused on enhancing cooperation at the municipal level, with both sides agreeing to formalize a twin-city relationship.

The proposed MoU will promote cultural exchange, foster people-to-people connections, and enable collaboration in key areas such as urban development, infrastructure, sustainable planning, beautification of public spaces, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Ambassador Al-Humaeri commended Chairman Randhawa for his leadership in improving Islamabad’s development, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.

He expressed Iraq’s keen interest in expanding economic, cultural, and tourism ties, and affirmed his country’s commitment to implementing joint initiatives with the CDA.

Chairman Randhawa briefed the Iraqi envoy on ongoing efforts to modernize the Diplomatic Enclave, a project led by the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

He highlighted that top landscape designers and architects are being engaged to revamp the area following international standards, aiming to create a secure and vibrant space for diplomatic missions and cultural activities.

The Iraqi envoy welcomed the initiative and pledged Iraq’s support for future cooperation.

Moreover, the MoU is expected to deepen both diplomatic and city-level collaboration between the two capitals.
