Punjab Assembly Speaker files disqualification reference against 26 SIC MPAs

Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan has submitted a disqualification reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against 26 members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

According to details, Malik Ahmad Khan personally visited the ECP office to file the reference, seeking the disqualification of 26 provincial assembly members belonging to the SIC.

Sources confirm that the reference targets the same 26 opposition members who were suspended from the Punjab Assembly following chaos and vandalism during the assembly session on June 27.

During that session, opposition lawmakers staged a protest marked by loud sloganeering and damage to assembly property. As a result, the speaker suspended their membership and, on June 28, announced their intention to send a reference to the Election Commission seeking their disqualification.
