Tunisian woman seeks shelter in Karachi after alleged abandonment by Pakistani husband

A 19-year-old woman from Tunisia, Senda Ayari, has sought shelter at a local women’s police station after her Pakistani husband allegedly abandoned her just months after their marriage.

According to police, Senda is a resident of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. She met Muhammad Amir, a resident of Khadda Market in Lyari, Karachi, through social media.

Hence, police stated that their online friendship soon turned into a romantic relationship, and the couple decided to marry.

Senda arrived in Karachi on November 28, 2024, after obtaining a Pakistani visa.

Amir received her at the airport, and the following day, his family organized a wedding ceremony. The marriage was officially registered on March 6 at the Union Council (06) Baghdadi in Lyari.

In her statement to police, Senda said the early days of their marriage were pleasant. However, after a few months, arguments began over minor issues.

Also, Senda stated that these disputes escalated, and Amir eventually divorced her.

Senda now wishes to return to Tunisia, but her 90-day visa expired on February 18.

Without a visa extension or an exit permit, she cannot legally leave the country.

Police officials confirmed that Senda has not accused her husband of any abuse or violence. They have granted her protective shelter.

Authorities summoned Amir to the police station, where he confirmed the divorce before leaving.

Officials stated that they are in contact with immigration authorities to complete the legal process for Senda’s return to Tunisia.
