The first wave of monsoon rains has unleashed severe destruction across Pakistan, claiming at least 12 lives and injuring many others.

Torrential downpours and strong winds have led to house collapses, lightning strikes, drownings, and other accidents in several cities throughout Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In Rawalpindi, a vehicle was swept away by flash floods on Range Road Lane 4. Authorities recovered the body of a female passenger and the car, while the search continues for the driver.

In Islamabad, strong winds and heavy rain brought down an electricity pole onto a vehicle, killing two people and injuring two others.

Several fatal incidents were reported due to collapsing structures. In Chunian, the roof of a house caved in, killing two young girls. A similar collapse in Okara claimed the life of a child and injured two others. In Bahawalnagar, a four-year-old boy, Zain, was killed when a roof gave way during heavy downpours.

Rain-related accidents also took lives in other regions. Two people died in Jhelum due to incidents linked to flooding and drowning, while in Mian Channu, a man was fatally struck by lightning.

In Upper Dir, a wall collapse killed a child and injured the mother. Meanwhile, in Tando Jam, the roof of a madrassa fell in, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to over twenty people.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall in the coming days and has urged citizens and authorities to take precautionary measures to avoid further casualties.
