KP govt employees rally in Peshawar against pension cuts, allowance reduction

Government employees from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have initiated a protest movement in Peshawar, voicing opposition to proposed pension cuts and a reduction in disparity allowance.

Participants from multiple districts have gathered in the provincial capital to press their demands.

Led by the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA), the protest began with employees gathering at City Number One School before marching toward Assembly Chowk, where a large-scale demonstration was held.

AGEGA President Wazir Zada stated that employees reject any form of pension deduction and criticized the 15% disparity allowance proposed in the provincial budget as inadequate. “We demand a minimum of 30% disparity allowance, on par with the federal government,” he said.

Protesting workers argue that the rising cost of living has made current benefits insufficient, and any further cuts would worsen their financial hardships.

The demonstration follows the failure of negotiations between employee representatives and the provincial finance adviser, prompting AGEGA to announce the province-wide protest.
