NEPRA approves Rs1.50 per unit cut in base power tariff

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has given the green light to a Rs1.50 per unit cut in the average base electricity tariff.

This decision is expected to bring noticeable relief in electricity bills for consumers in the coming months.

As per official details, NEPRA has set the multi-year tariff for power distribution companies at Rs34 per unit and has forwarded its approval of the revised average tariff to the federal government.

However, the implementation of the reduced tariff is contingent on the government’s agreement to extend the required subsidy.

The federal government is expected to issue a formal notification soon, following which the new electricity rates will come into effect.

According to NEPRA officials, the reduction is part of an effort to lessen the financial strain on the public and help counter the pressure of rising inflation.

Sources within the government indicated that the subsidy decision will be finalized shortly to enable timely relief for electricity consumers across the country.
