Sindh Assembly approves Rs156 billion supplementary budget

The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday approved a supplementary budget worth Rs156 billion for the 2025-26 fiscal year amid intense discussions and witty exchanges.

The government presented 84 demands for grants, while the opposition’s 735 cut motions were rejected.

During the session, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah clarified the government’s expenditure on courts, the assembly, the governor’s house, and loans.

In response to MQM’s Muhammad Mazhar’s objection regarding fuel prices, the chief minister attributed the soaring costs to inflation.

When MQM’s Jamal Ahmed proposed a cut of Rs29 crore in the budget, the chief minister humorously retorted, “When the total expenses are only one crore, how could we cut Rs29 crore?”

Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi requested that all motions be taken up seriously, highlighting the effort behind them.

However, the assembly rejected all motions brought forward by the opposition.

After the approval of the supplementary budget, the Speaker adjourned the session until Wednesday morning.
