Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ishaq Dar stated, “Pakistan-Afghanistan relations are on positive trajectory after my very productive visit to Kabul with Pakistan delegation on 19th April 2025. To maintain this momentum, I am pleased to announce the decision of the Government of Pakistan to upgrade the level of its Chargé d’Affaires in Kabul to the level of Ambassador.”

He expressed confidence that the move would lead to “enhanced engagement, deepen Pak-Afghan cooperation in economic, security, CT & trade areas and promote further exchanges between two fraternal countries.”

Dar noted that his April 19 visit to Kabul marked a turning point in bilateral ties, and the new appointment reflects Islamabad’s intent to further solidify this positive trajectory.

China, Pakistan reiterate support to extending CPEC to Afghanistan

Sources say this decision also aligns with the recent agreement reached during the trilateral dialogue held in Beijing between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan. During the meeting, all sides agreed to boost diplomatic engagement and appoint ambassadors to strengthen relations.

The appointment is being hailed as a major step towards stabilising relations between the two neighbours and fostering cooperation on regional security, counterterrorism, and trade.
