Memon blames banned Shafi Burfat group for violent attacks in Moro

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has accused the banned Shafi Burfat-led Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) group of orchestrating recent violent protests and terrorist activities in the province, including attacks on vital installations and foreign nationals.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Tuesday, Memon said that the Shafi Burfat group has long been operating from abroad and has a history of involvement in subversive acts in Sindh. “This group has targeted key installations in the province and was also involved in attacks on foreign citizens in Sindh,” he stated.

He added that the JSMM had given a call for a protest in Moro, which turned violent. “During the protest, there were miscreants present who not only clashed with police but opened fire on law enforcement personnel,” said Memon. “Eight people were injured during the chaos,” he added.

Memon said the protestors were masked and carried flammable materials in their backpacks. “Some of them shouted slogans to march towards the Rangers’ headquarters. The fire that broke out there was caused by chemicals,” he alleged.

Naushahro Feroze: Sindh minister’s house set on fire amid violent protests

The minister claimed that this was part of a wider conspiracy against Pakistan. “Over the past few days, we have observed a surge in anti-state activities. After the recent incidents, proxy elements have become active again,” he noted.

He further accused the JSMM of being involved in past train bombings and attacks on foreigners. “Shafi Burfat, who heads JSMM, has long led such operations from abroad,” Memon said.

He also alleged that the protestors raised anti-state slogans, torched oil tankers, and specifically targeted police personnel. “The attackers beat up and tortured police officers. Two of the injured from the firing have succumbed to their injuries,” he said.

Memon reiterated that the Sindh government would not allow any group to destabilize the province and would take strict action against those involved in violence and terrorism.
