Pakistan warns of ‘swift and assured response’ if India violates ceasefire

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has warned that any Indian ceasefire violation will provoke a “swift and assured response” from Pakistan, cautioning that a serious escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours could lead to mutual destruction.

In an interview with British broadcaster Sky News on Thursday, the DG ISPR said India’s aggressive posture and war-mongering risked catastrophe for the region.

“Any sane player like the USA understands this absurdity and what the Indians are trying to do here,” he told the publication. He further warned that by pushing for conflict, India was crafting a “recipe for mutual destruction,” highlighting growing international awareness of the nuclear threat in South Asia.

The warning came amid heightened tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi after the latter accused Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack. On the night of May 6-7, India launched a series of air strikes inside Pakistani territory, reportedly causing civilian casualties. The hostilities quickly escalated as both sides exchanged missile fire over the following days, before a ceasefire was eventually brokered through American intervention.

Pakistan’s response to be decisive if sovereignty threatened: DG ISPR

US President Donald Trump announced on May 10 that a ceasefire had been agreed upon between the two countries. According to Pakistani authorities, Indian strikes resulted in the deaths of 40 civilians, including seven women and 15 children, while 121 others were injured.

During the interview, Lt Gen Chaudhry also criticised India’s ongoing actions in Kashmir, accusing New Delhi of attempting to “internalise the issue and harassing” Kashmiris through an overwhelming military presence.

“It is a problem that has to be resolved by the people of Kashmir as per the United Nations Security Council resolution,” he stated.

He warned: “Anyone who tries to violate our territory and integrity and sovereignty, our response will be brutal.”

ISPR: Pakistan shoots down 29 Indian drones as three civilians killed

Referring to the doctrine of mutually assured destruction, the DG ISPR stressed that a full-scale military conflict between India and Pakistan would destroy both nations.

“A serious escalation between India and Pakistan would destroy both sides,” he reiterated, underlining that the stakes were far too high for any miscalculation.

In a press conference following the ceasefire last week, Lt Gen Chaudhry had remarked that a war between the two countries could endanger the lives of over 1.6 billion people across the region.

“In reality, there is no space for war between India and Pakistan,” he concluded.
