The incident occurred near a railway station on the Sealdah-Bongaon line, close to the India-Bangladesh border.

The suspects, identified as Chandan Malakar (30) and Progyajit Mondal (45), reportedly planned to paint provocative slogans such as “Hindustan Murdabad” and “Pakistan Zindabad” to stir unrest.

Both men are local residents and members of the fringe group Sanatani Ekta Mancha.

During police interrogation, they confessed to their actions. They have been charged with promoting enmity between groups and criminal conspiracy.

The incident has sparked political controversy, with BJP MLA Ashok Kirtania accusing the police of fabricating charges against the men, claiming it is a case of political vendetta.
