In a major crackdown on online anti-state activity, Lahore police have registered 23 cases in just 24 hours under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), targeting individuals accused of spreading hate and misinformation against state institutions.

According to DIG Investigations Syed Zeeshan Raza, those involved are allegedly engaged in creating societal unrest and inciting hatred against national institutions through fake and objectionable content on social media platforms.

The FIRs, lodged at various police stations across the city, are part of an ongoing campaign to hold accountable those uploading or sharing doctored and indecent videos related to key political and government figures.

Police officials said that individuals disseminating derogatory and inflammatory content targeting state institutions will not be granted any leniency. “Mocking or defaming institutions is a serious offence, and those responsible will face the harshest legal consequences,” a senior official said.
