Ambassador Tipu stated that the consular team in Zahedan visited the mortuary and is overseeing the arrangements to send the bodies back to Pakistan. He also expressed gratitude for Iran’s cooperation during the process.

The victims were killed in a horrific incident in the village of Mehrestan district, located in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province. All eight were laborers from Bahawalpur district in Punjab, Pakistan.

The tragedy has sparked widespread grief and anger in both countries. Pakistan’s Foreign Office says the repatriation of the bodies may take eight to ten days.

In response, the Iranian Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the killings in strong terms, expressing deep sorrow. They called the incident a grave act of terrorism aimed at harming Pakistan-Iran relations.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei described the attack as a violation of Islamic teachings, law, and human values. He assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

Iranian authorities say a full investigation is ongoing, with continued cooperation from the Pakistani Embassy.
