Karachi braces for 38 degree Celsius as heatwave sweeps Sindh

A severe heatwave is gripping parts of Pakistan, with temperatures soaring to extreme levels.

Larkana and Mohenjo Daro recorded a blistering 46 degree Celsius, while Dadu followed closely at 45 degree Celsius. Nawabshah and Hyderabad also faced intense heat, with temperatures hitting 43 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, relatively lower yet still sweltering conditions were observed in Multan and Islamabad at 36 degree Celsius, and in Karachi and Lahore at 37 degree Celsius.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted hot and humid conditions for Karachi today, with temperatures expected to rise as high as 38 degree Celsius under clear skies and intense sunlight.

Intermittent strong winds are anticipated throughout the day, blowing from the west and southwest at speeds of up to 21km/h.

Currently, the temperature stands at 30 degree Celsius, though it feels more like 34 degree Celsius due to elevated humidity, which is recorded at 67%.

The PMD reports that most parts of the country, including Sindh, will remain under the grip of a heatwave starting today. In Sindh, temperatures are likely to stay 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal until April 18.
