The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), in a meeting chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, has approved the appointment of Lahore High Court’s Justice Ali Baqar Najafi to the Supreme Court.

The session, which lasted for two and a half hours, focused on the appointment of two judges to the apex court and reviewed the names of five senior judges from the Lahore High Court.

According to sources, the commission approved Justice Najafi’s elevation to the Supreme Court based on a majority vote. The decision reportedly received support from two members representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who voted in favor of his appointment.

The meeting also discussed other pending judicial matters. Sources revealed that the commission approved the removal of certain remarks related to Justice Shujaat Ali Khan. PTI members also supported the deletion of those remarks.
