Massive asteroid may slam into Moon — here’s what NASA just found

According to NASA, an asteroid the size of a 10-story building, which was previously believed to have a chance of colliding with Earth, is now more likely to hit the Moon instead.

Experts at NASA and members of the global planetary defense community had initially predicted that the asteroid “YR4 2024,” measuring between 174 and 220 feet in size, could strike Earth in 2032.

However, scientists have now stated that the chances of the asteroid hitting Earth are extremely low. Recently, NASA had reduced the risk of collision with Earth to nearly zero.

Nonetheless, the NASA team has said that the likelihood of “YR4 2024” colliding with the Moon in 2032 has increased from 1.7% to 3.8%.

The NASA team mentioned that this observation is based on data collected from both the James Webb Space Telescope and ground-based telescopes.
