According to ministry sources, the government’s reputation has suffered due to its decision to allow sugar exports.

A written agreement was in place with sugar mill owners and major dealers ensuring that prices would remain stable.

However, despite this agreement, sugar prices soared from Rs124 to Rs170 per kilogram following export approvals granted to mill owners under the Sugar Mills Association’s commitment.

Officials have begun reviewing sugar mill records, while a list of market manipulators has been compiled. Authorities are working to identify those responsible, and legal action will be taken against mill owners involved in price manipulation.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a crackdown in multiple cities, including Faisalabad and Lahore.
