The event occurred at Liberty University during the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championship.

Kaelen Tucker, who is a junior at Brookville High School, was competing in the 4x200 relay when she was hit on the head with a baton by Alaila Everett, a senior from IC Norcom High School.

Tucker reported that the collision caused immediate pain, resulting in a headache that led her to seek medical attention.

Doctors confirmed she had a concussion and possibly a skull fracture.

Everett commented on the incident, explaining that her baton got stuck behind Tucker and swung back as she lost her balance.

Both athletes have not spoken since the race, and Tucker’s family has reportedly sought a protective order against Everett.

The Virginia High School League is currently investigating the situation.
