The PPP delegation, led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, met PM Shehbaz Sharif during an Iftar dinner at the Prime Minister’s House.

The delegation included Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and other senior leaders.

PPP raises concerns

According to sources, PPP leaders expressed concerns over the federal government’s plans to extract new canals from the Indus River, stating that such unilateral policies were causing unease across the provinces and putting pressure on the federation.

In response, PM Shehbaz assured the delegation that no project regarding new canals from the Indus River would be undertaken without consulting PPP.

He also promised to call a high-level meeting soon to discuss the matter in detail.

The premier further announced that the PPP and PML-N would hold a meeting in Lahore on Saturday to address Punjab-related issues.

He assigned Ishaq Dar the task of overseeing negotiations between the two parties.

Bilawal Bhutto also raised concerns over federal funding for Sindh’s development projects and the province’s water distribution issues.

Sources say the meeting also included discussions on the political agreement between PPP and PML-N during the government formation process.

Bilawal reportedly conveyed PPP’s reservations over unmet commitments by the federal government. The two sides also deliberated on power-sharing arrangements in Punjab.

PM Shehbaz lauded the PPP’s role in working alongside the federal government and emphasised the need for cooperation between all provinces and political parties to ensure Pakistan’s progress.

During the meeting, the PPP delegation also voiced concerns over the law and order situation in Kurram. Both parties exchanged views on implementing their political agreement and addressing provincial matters.
