Western media’s false narratives on Gwadar airport debunked

Western media outlets, including BBC, CNN, and several Indian media organisations, continue to push misleading narratives about Gwadar airport’s so-called failure, attempting to paint the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as an unsuccessful project.

However, ground realities tell a different story — one that investigative journalists and official records confirm.

The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA), a $230 million state-of-the-art facility spanning 4,300 acres, has been fully operational since January 20, 2025, and its flight operations continue to expand.

Between January 20 and February 26, the airport successfully handled 42 flights, establishing strong connectivity between Gwadar and key domestic as well as international destinations.

The airport operates flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, linking Gwadar with Karachi and Muscat.

Passenger movement has been steady, with 14 flights between Gwadar and Karachi carrying 542 passengers, while 7 flights on the Gwadar-Muscat route transported 299 passengers.

Similarly, flights from Karachi to Gwadar brought in 493 passengers, and Muscat to Gwadar flights accounted for 203 passengers.

In total, NGIA has facilitated 1,537 passengers in just over a month of commercial operations.

Contrary to the claims of detractors, Gwadar is progressing, and NGIA is playing a crucial role in its integration into regional and global air networks.

The airport’s increasing flight activity highlights its growing importance as a key transport hub under CPEC.
John
Despite repeated attempts by hostile forces to discredit the region’s development, Gwadar continues to defy propaganda with tangible progress.

The reality on the ground remains indisputable: Gwadar is rising, and NGIA is strengthening its role in Pakistan’s economic future.
