She lamented that Pakistan played a key role in eliminating Al-Qaeda from South Asia but received no recognition for it.

Speaking during a Senate session, Sherry Rehman highlighted Pakistan’s alarming ranking as the second most affected country on the Global Terrorism Index.

She called for an in-camera briefing on the growing security concerns, emphasising the need to strengthen parliamentary oversight and ensure lawmakers’ participation.

Meanwhile, the session turned tense over the arrest of PTI Senator Aun Abbas Bappi.

PTI lawmakers staged a walkout in protest, with Senator Shibli Faraz condemning the arrest and alleging political victimisation.

He claimed that Bappi was taken from his home early in the morning without proper procedure and that opposition members were being silenced.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar defended the arrest, stating that Bappi was taken into custody by Bahawalpur police for illegal hunting, which he described as a serious issue in Cholistan.

The explanation failed to satisfy PTI senators, who walked out again after being denied permission to discuss the matter further.

The session also saw a heated exchange between Deputy Chairman Senate and Senator Manzoor Kakar.

Additionally, Senator Dinesh Kumar urged authorities to allow minority traders to set up affordable Ramadan markets.

The discussion on inflation took a sharp turn when Senator Nadeem Bhutto remarked, “If the devil is locked up in Ramadan, then who is responsible for price gouging?”

The opposition criticised the government’s failure to control inflation, with senators questioning the disappearance of sugar stocks and the misallocation of Rs20 billion meant for relief programmes.

Due to a lack of quorum, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the Senate session until March 8.
