Salman Akram Raja: Govt’s so-called economic progress is driven by foreign debt

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has criticised the government, stating that it has spent the past year under a fascist regime, silencing journalists and suppressing dissent.

He declared that “buildings cannot be constructed atop skulls,” referring to the administration’s harsh measures.

He claimed that the so-called economic progress being touted by the government is actually fuelled by foreign loans, while two crore (20 million) people have fallen below the poverty line.

Speaking on Aaj TV’s programme “News Insight with Aamir Zia”, Raja asserted that the government is misrepresenting borrowed funds as economic achievements.

“Inflation has skyrocketed in just two and a half years,” he said.

He also condemned the government’s handling of protests, particularly the events of November 26, where he claimed that unarmed civilians were fired upon.

“For the past year, the government has engaged in a blatant display of tyranny, but history shows that fascism does not last forever. The public is now aware, and a storm is brewing,” he warned. He pointed to widespread protests in Sindh over canal water issues as a sign of growing unrest.

The PTI leader labeled the past year as a year of failure for the government, stating that it is now crumbling under its own weight.

“From Balochistan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, nothing is going well,” he said, adding that PTI has invited all opposition parties to join forces for the sake of the country.

Raja also revealed that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have made changes to their legal team and spokespersons. During his recent meeting with Khan, discussions focused on political matters and opposition alliances.
