Ali Amin Gandapur: Government focused only on PTI while terrorism resurges

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has blamed the federal government for prioritising actions against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) instead of countering terrorism, which he said has resurfaced across the country.

Speaking to the media outside the Peshawar High Court, Gandapur stated that under PTI’s government, terrorist activities were minimal, but after the change in regime, authorities diverted all their focus toward PTI instead of security issues.

He warned that terrorism is now spreading nationwide and accused state institutions of prioritising the crackdown on PTI leaders and workers instead of national security.

“Our decision-makers in Islamabad are disconnected from the ground realities,” he added.

He revealed that terms of reference (TORs) for negotiations with Afghanistan had been sent to the federal government, but despite two reminders, there has been no response.

“Condemnation statements from Islamabad are not a solution. When the entire system is focused on rigging elections instead of controlling terrorism, this is what happens,” he remarked.

Gandapur also challenged the Punjab government to a public debate, accusing it of spending billions on advertisements while failing to deliver on governance.

“Punjab’s performance is not even one per cent of what Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has achieved,” he claimed.

Gandapur also addressed concerns about PTI’s founder receiving misleading reports from different individuals.

“I will meet him personally and discuss the situation,” he assured.

On the renaming of Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, he clarified that the decision was made in response to public demand.

However, if the party leadership wants the name reverted, it will be done accordingly.

Opposition leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, also spoke to the media outside the Peshawar High Court, condemning the federal government for what he called a year of fraudulent rule.

“This government came to power through rigged Form 47 results, and it has inflicted unprecedented oppression and injustice on the people,” he said.

Faraz accused the ruling coalition of legalising corruption and using advertisements to spread false narratives instead of working for public welfare.

Anti-government protests after Eid
Faraz revealed that opposition parties are uniting, with discussions already underway, and a mass movement against the government will be launched after Eid.

He expressed concern over the rising wave of terrorism, stating that extremists have reached Bannu in KP, which is alarming.

“The government’s focus is on expanding its cabinet to reward defectors and opportunists. Meanwhile, the country faces record-high inflation and growing insecurity,” he said.

Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub, also blamed the government for failing to counter the rising security threats.

“During our tenure, terrorism was nearly eradicated. The only solution to the ongoing crisis is diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan,” he said.

Ayub warned that terrorism is rapidly returning, particularly in Balochistan, where local sentiment is shifting toward self-determination.

“This resurgence is an intelligence failure. Our security personnel are being martyred, and intelligence agencies must be held accountable for their inability to prevent these attacks,” he said.
