In his opening monologue, host Conan O’Brien, acting as the fashion police, emphasised the importance of proper attire for the star-studded event.

O’Brien humorously targeted a member of the audience for their casual look, turning his attention to Sandler, who was dressed in basketball shorts and a vibrant blue hoodie.

“You’re dressed well, Adam,” O’Brien quipped sarcastically. When pressed further about his outfit, Sandler responded with a playful, exaggerated tantrum reminiscent of his many comedic roles, adding a light-hearted moment to the ceremony.

Sandler defended his casual attire after host O’Brien made a light-hearted jab at his outfit.

“Nobody even thought about what I was wearing ’til you brought it up!” Sandler said. O’Brien humorously remarked that Sandler looked like “a guy playing video poker at 2am,” which many felt was an accurate description of his basketball shorts and hoodie.

Despite the host’s light teasing, the actor was not amused. “You know what, Conan?! I like the way I look,” he said. “I don’t care about what I wear! Goodbye, my snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt that offend you so much that you had to mock me in front of my peers!”

As O’Brien tried to apologise, Sandler, clearly agitated, stood up and appeared ready to leave the stage, making for a memorable moment at the awards ceremony.

Before leaving the 2025 Academy Awards, Sandler made a memorable stop to greet actor Timothée Chalamet.
