Calling it a positive development, he expressed satisfaction over the steady decline in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

As the government completes its first year, the prime minister highlighted that the average inflation rate from July 2024 to February 2025 stood at 5.9%, a significant drop from 28% in the same period last year.

He credited the economic team’s efforts, stating that key indicators are improving daily.

PM Shehbaz emphasised that all institutions are working together to boost economic growth, business, and investment.

He assured the public that the benefits of macroeconomic stability were beginning to reach the people and expressed confidence in a further decline in inflation.

“Ensuring essential commodities at affordable prices remains the government’s top priority,” he added.

PM takes notice of gas shortages

The prime minister also took notice of gas shortages during Sehri and Iftar and ordered immediate measures to resolve the issue.

In a late-night emergency meeting, he discussed the crisis with top officials of Sui gas companies.

Following his directives, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced a 10% increase in gas pressure.

Additionally, gas supply to low-pressure areas will start 30 to 45 minutes before Sehri and Iftar to improve availability.

To monitor gas distribution, control rooms will be set up at headquarters and regional offices, conducting daily assessments of supply conditions.

According to Sui Northern Gas spokesperson, the prime minister’s orders are being implemented immediately.

Consumers facing issues are encouraged to call helpline 1199 for assistance.

Meanwhile, Petroleum Division Secretary Momin Agha visited gas-deprived areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, inspecting low-pressure complaints firsthand.

He directed SNGPL teams to resolve issues on the spot after identifying gas supply problems in multiple households.
