She directed officials to expedite the installation process, emphasising that the government wants to ease the burden of expensive power on the public.

Under the scheme, the physical verification of applicants will be conducted, and installation will begin by the end of March.

The programme will provide free solar systems to domestic consumers using up to 200 units of electricity per month.

She said that a total of 861,000 consumers have applied for the initiative.

To assist applicants, a dedicated helpline has been set up, she added.

Additionally, to prevent theft, the solar panels and inverters will be linked to the consumers’ computerised national identity cards.

The initiative is also expected to have environmental benefits.

The installation of 100,000 solar systems will help reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tonnes, making a significant contribution to the fight against climate change, CM Punjab noted.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated her commitment to completing the project efficiently and ensuring maximum benefit for the people of Punjab.
